Anti-Love Potion Pages

As promised, here are a few of my favorite spread pages from my children's book "Anti-Love Potion."  The story is about two neighbor kids: Ralph, a messy and adventurous boy, and Sophie, a clean girly girl.  Sophie has a crush on Ralph, so decides to make him a love potion so he will feel the same way.  Unfortunately for her, Ralph does not like girls, so he decides to combat her love potion with an anti-love potion made out of the most disgusting things he can find in hopes it will gross her out and leave him alone.

Hand Letter My Life

For Hand Letters, we are supposed to make one alphabet every week, so here is my very first alphabet.  I especially like the C, D, I, M, U and Z, but mostly D.  I really like the cool, funky letters, so for another assignment, we were assigned to make a banner for the class blog, so I just went with the letters I already made and I think it turned out pretty well.  Plus, the Hand Letters has a D, which makes me happy that I was able to use that D for something.  The whole class voted over which banner would be used and even though I did not win, my banner made it into the top eight in the class, which was exciting.

Still More to Come!

I uploaded so many things last night, but I'm not done yet! You can expect me to upload my full 32-page children's book over the weekend after I scan it into the computer. Out of all the things I did, I really, really take pride in this and I can't wait to show you guys. Also, I will try to get some of my internship work up on the blog, as well. Hopefully that will be done around the week like the book.

So have a lovely week, everybody!

Sorry, I Can't Hear You Over My MENORAH HEAD!

Wait, what is this about being a month and a half late for Chanukah? Sorry, I can't hear you over my MENORAH HEAD! The characters are actually friends of mine and I incorporated their personalities into their outfits, facial expressions, and body language.  I also really liked the center image, so did a single black and white image of that for myself.  So happy Chanukah!

So How 'Bout That Murder?

All three of these illustrations are about a story my group and I illustrated in Advanced Character Design class for an animated film. All of my contributions centered around the sacrificial girl, the place of sacrifice, and the girl's sacrificed sister's ghost.

I Like BIG Money

"Big Money" is a computer game I grew up playing almost religiously in middle school. You can play it for free on the computer and is very similar to "Bejeweled" where you match up coins of the same color, but while you are doing that, you have the head of your boss either complimenting you when you are doing well, or becomes nasty if you are losing. Since there are no backgrounds in this game, I wanted to focus on the environment where the boss would reside and really try to bring out his personality in the game.

You Know You Love Converse- It's in Your Programing

At least that is the preface of this advertisement.  In my Illustration Concepts I class, we were to make an advertisement for Converse Shoes, World Wildlife Fund, Absolut Vodka, or Toyota Prius.  The concept for my piece is Converse Shoes has been around for over 100 years and is still popular that Converse has become part of us, the consumers.  If you look closely enough, you can see the stick figures' heads resemble fingerprints to represent the individual consumer.  Each figure is different and Converse Shoes come in a variety of styles, colors, what-have-you that they can suit anyone's individual taste.

Perhaps the overall concept is a little out there, but I like how this piece came out.  I might try and see how the piece would look without the double helix and just focus on the shoes and have a spiderweb effect with the laces when I get the opportunity to go back to it.  Any opinions?

Finals Spring 2010

I suppose the origin of these caricatures are self-explanatory from the "Finals Spring 2010" written above. I got to the point where I was so stressed out and frustrated, I NEEDED to do something with my hands, so made a dive for the nearby sticky note pad and pens and "Stress Face" was born. I actually found that this series of expressionist facial expressions are some of the most fun projects I have taken on. I have continued to many more sticky note characters and should upload them hopefully soon.

The top purple poster was on display in the Walters Museum during the month of March of 2009.
The posters highlighted one aspect of the illuminated manuscripts of the exhibit that really stood out to me - the way the artists not only fixed mistakes in the manuscripts, but did it in a way that was visually pleasing. If a word was left out, an artist created an interesting pulley system that connected the left out word back into its rightful place as opposed to scrapping the entire page and starting new.
